About Melanocortin Receptor Research Peptides
Both compounds in this category are synthetic analogues of alpha-MSH, and the difference between them is receptor selectivity. Melanotan I (afamelanotide) is comparatively selective for the MC1 receptor. Melanotan II is a non-selective agonist acting across several melanocortin receptors, which is why its research literature covers a broader and more varied set of effects than Melanotan I's.
That selectivity difference is the single most important thing to understand before choosing between them, and it is frequently glossed over in secondary sources that treat the two as interchangeable versions of the same compound.
